Icing sugar house

This handsome, if over-embellished Victorian house is Wyndover Manor, an Abbeyfield House. (Abbeyfield International is a charity that places elderly people in secure, comfortable and affordable homes.) Wyndover Manor in the upmarket suburb of Claremont, was restored and became the first Abbeyfield home in South Africa in 1987. It can accommodate 8 residents. Whoever the plasterer was, he or she seemed to get a bit carried away!

Dyna-Mo

I think every Capetonian knows about the Train Park in Belvedere Road, Claremont. I came across a wonderful blog with loads of information about this much loved engine. It was built in 1896 and is the only Brooks locomotive in South Africa. Visit Piet Conradie's great blog Old Steam Locomotives in South Africa for more information.
