No fires today

A wonderful wet and squally day today - with no need for the fire engines, which are all snug in their garages at the Central Fire Station in Roeland Street. I can't find out much about this building, other than it was around in 1963, but it looks kind of Art Deco. This area of lower Gardens is becoming most sought-after and an apartment here will set you back quite a bit whereas a decade or so ago it was not considered at all desirable. So French, so different ...

Missed the boat by one day - but better late than never. This was meant to be my Happy Bastille Day post as I drove past this venerable old Citroen in Gardens the other day: a misty Devil's Peak in the distance.

Skollywood

This is the building in Cape Town's uber-trendy Kloof Street in Gardens that houses the wild and wacky gypsy, Madame Zingara's restaurant, The Bombay Bicycle Club. I confess I haven't tried it out yet but hope to soon. Here is a review.
Skolly is a South African word for gangster - but hopefully there are not too many of them in the pleasant Victorian streets of Gardens.
