Stop!

Today is cool, cloudy and quiet - the storm blew itself out last night. I was sorry to see the Big Issue woman with two tiny children begging at the very busy intersection of the M3 Motorway off ramp and Constantia Main Road. Can you imagine your own three or four year old kids literally "playing" in the traffic? It is iniquitous in a civilized country. What hope do these kids have? And chances are, they don't even belong to the woman. It is a well known fact that kids are "borrowed" from creches for the day to elicit more sympathy for beggars.
My son is raising money for Save the Children, and I recommend this charity as they really do get money to children in dire need.

Constantia Street Kids

My brother-in-law stepped out of his house last week to walk to the station to catch his train to work and was knocked over by a car that went through a stop street, hit another car and ploughed into him causing untold damage to his lower legs and pretty nearly costing him his life. Then I see this scene which plays out daily along all our roads - and wonder - do these children not have rights under our Constitution?

Street baby

This elegant woman looks like someone's gogo (granny) who shouldn't be begging on the street corner - especially in today's rain. It is very blustery and squalls are sweeping over the peninsula with the promise of blue sky at times - but on the whole a soggy day for the Portugal - Northern Korea match in the Cape Town stadium. I hear Portugal is making short work of the Northern Koreans.

Constantia's street kids

Snapped from my car window on the way home this chilly afternoon. Children begging are a common sight everywhere in South Africa.
