Icing sugar house

This handsome, if over-embellished Victorian house is Wyndover Manor, an Abbeyfield House. (Abbeyfield International is a charity that places elderly people in secure, comfortable and affordable homes.) Wyndover Manor in the upmarket suburb of Claremont, was restored and became the first Abbeyfield home in South Africa in 1987. It can accommodate 8 residents. Whoever the plasterer was, he or she seemed to get a bit carried away!

  1. It is a little ornate. Reminds me a bit of Miss Havisham ...

  6. Oh, wow, the detail is even more evident when you enlarge the photo. It must've taken ages to do.

  7. It may be rather ornate but it suggests pride in the work and attention to detail: a hopeful sign in a house for the elderly.
I must say I can almost taste the icing! It has lasted very well.

  10. My father grew up in this house (circa 1930-1953). My grandmother purchased the house in the late 1920's. I visited the house in the mid-1970's with my family and my dad showed us around.
