The entrance to the infamous
Pollsmoor maximum security prison in the heart of Cape Town's affluent suburb of
Tokai. In April 1982 Nelson Mandela, together with Walter
Sisulu, Raymond
Mhlaba and Andrew
Mlangeni were moved here from
Robben Island in the build up to his eventual release and the disbanding of apartheid. A few months later they were joined by Ahmed
Kathrada. He remained there until 1988 when he was transferred to Victor
Verster low security Prison near
Paarl.
Beautiful picture of a historic place.
