Operatic
This is a view of our ugly Opera House - the Artscape Centre - on the foreshore of Cape Town. It was built in the early 1970s during the Apartheid Era - also an era of incredibly ugly architecture - and used to be known as the "Nico Malan Theatre" after some National Party administator. The operatic stainless steel sculpture in the front is by Johan van Heerden but apart from the sculptor's name I can't find out much about it. The best part of the photo is the guy who spends most days sprawled on the nice warm concrete paved area that links the Artscape Centre with the Civic Centre. More ABC Wednesdays.

This is so different from our Opera House here in PE. The PE Opera House is the last active Victorian opera house in the South Hemisphere and dates back to the 1890's.
ReplyDeleteA heated step looks very nice, about now! Excellent photo!
ReplyDeleteHey, it was quite nice inside until they changed it.
