Silver trees

Silver trees blowing in the wind on the slopes of Vlakkenberg Peak, Table Mountain. Today is stormy and the sky very black, providing a wonderful backdrop to these silver trees that are actually giant proteas. They are indigenous to the Western Cape and considered rare and endangered. This population was planted from seed acquired from Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden by the Friends of Vlakkenberg. You can see the pine tree stumps in front - all that remains of the alien plantations that are being felled and replaced with indigenous plants.
