Road trip to the Orange River - Pella

We stopped briefly to marvel at the Catholic mission church at Pella - close to the Orange River. This isolated, grindingly poor little mission settlement in the middle of nowhere managed to build this magnificent cathedral-like church under the direction of two priests who only had a photo of a church to work on! After 7 years it was completed and consecrated in 1895.

  1. What is the road like? That is a legendary place I've thought of visiting. And did you bring home some dates?

  4. I haven't had the opportunity to explore the Northern Cape and the more I see of it the more I want to go. Its so much more than a hot and dry place. The church is magnificent.
