The Eagles have landed

Right here in Cape Town! Last night's concert under an almost full moon in the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point, although not sold out, was pretty full and fun to be part of. Welcome to the Hotel California got the loudest response by far.

Beautiful Day

Today's weather is clear and breezy - but looking good for the U2 concert tonight in the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point, seen shimmering here in the morning sun from Green Point Park. There has been a fair amount of controversy over this concert after some sensationalist reporting of Bono's comments (taken completely out of context) and some tweetings of a silly little local rightwing idiotic blonde (of course) singer. Read a balanced take on it here.

View over Cape Town

A rainy Saturday morning in Cape Town. Our weather is turning subtropical these days - I am sure we haven't had such a wet spring in years. You can just see the soccer stadium protruding around Lion's Head on the left of the photo - looking a bit like a ship.

What a yawn

Bring on the players! Waiting for the Netherlands vs Cameroon match to start in Cape Town's stadium last night. I just had to include a mention of yesterday's match. A gentlemanly, entertaining game with the most fantastic festive atmosphere and a huge predominance of bright orange. Pure magic! I'm hooked.
And the match to watch today? Portugal vs Brazil in Durban at 4.
Then look out for the England and Germany match on 27 June.

Out but not down

The headlines of the Cape Times this morning was "Out but not down", and that pretty much sums up the feeling of South Africa and Bafana Bafana fans as they celebrate a win against the mighty France. They didn't disgrace themselves! These Macdonald's "waitrons" and a fan were taking a bit of time out in front of the Cape Town Stadium this afternoon - a day ahead of the Cameroon-Netherlands match that will be played here tomorrow night.
