Painting the town yellow

You can't win 'em all and last night's soccer was a tad disappointing - but fun to get let loose in the Cape Town Stadium again. We lost to the USA by a goal, but had fun "painting the town yellow" in support of Bafana Bafana.
On yesterday evening's walk, these beautiful wild irises were flowering in the Constantia green belt. They occur naturally on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain but are not always this yellow - just when we are playing soccer I think. (Other colour forms are blue and white.) They are called "soetuintjie" in Afrikaans which means sweet little onion, as they are apparently edible. Fugax is Latin for "fleeting" as the flowers only last one afternoon.

"A limber elf"

This morning was quite wintry and blustery, and I happened across this little girl playing in the stream that runs through the Constantia Green Belt. It brought to mind Coleridge's words from Christabel:
"A little child, a limber elf,
Singing, dancing to itself,
A fairy thing with red round cheeks . . ."
. . . And is that a hint of ORANGE I see in the distance? There are just so many orange people around that I think the Netherlands must be going to win the World Cup.

A rainy evening walk

A lonely dog walker braves the rain in the Constantia Green Belt this evening.

Today is Ascension Thursday.
