Astronomical
This delightful house is the home of the Director of the South African Astronomical Observatory in Observatory, on the banks of the Liesbeek River. Several rare and endangered species grow wild in front of the house which is on a remnant of "Peninsula Shale Renosterveld" vegetation. The Blue Peacock Moraea (Moraea aristata) that does well in cultivation but is almost extinct in the wild and only occurs naturally here.

'only occurs naturally here' sounds quite frightening. This is it. What you see is what you've got. Is that garden legally protected for nature conservation?
ReplyDeleteYes it does, luckily.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful spot
ReplyDeleteAt first glance the house looked abandoned with an overgrown garden. LOL, sorry. The flower is beautiful and its sad that it doesn't grow in the wild as much as it used to.
ReplyDeleteThe main problem seems to be the growth of invasive species of grass but it seems that the bulbs dont mind too much. The house has a lovely neat garden around it too - hidden by the hedge.
